12 arrested for drug crimes

by | Apr 13, 2018 | drug charges

Louisiana law enforcement agencies frequently join forces to crack down on drug activity within the state. Agencies from the local, state and federal levels often work together to reduce the number of drug crimes in the communities. Recently, multiple organizations participated in the arrest of 12 individuals after raids were made on various locations.

According to reports from the Concordia Parish Special Operations Group, officers had been monitoring five locations that were suspected of being drug distribution centers. Evidently, police had been watching these locations for some time, and extensive plans were made before the raids took place. More than 40 officers participated in the effort, as all five locations were simultaneously raided.

In the searches, reports indicate that 48 pounds of marijuana and 20 ounces of crystal methamphetamine were located. Also supposedly discovered were pills of a controlled substance, drug paraphernalia and over $13,000 in cash. Police said they found several weapons, such as shotguns, handguns and a semi-automatic rifle during the search.

The people arrested face several charges, including possession of Schedule I, II and IV drugs with intent to sell, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Several were charged with possession of a weapon and controlled drug substance concurrently. All except one person have been held in jail without bond.

The consequences of drug charges in the state of Louisiana can be very serious. If someone is convicted, he or she may be required to pay monetary fines or spend time in jail. Everyone is entitled to present a defense against these types of charges. An experienced defense lawyer can ensure that searches were conducted properly and that any evidence used in a case has been legally obtained. All efforts will be made to help clients maintain their existing lifestyle and freedoms.
