Multi-agency operation results in 26 arrested on drug charges

by | Feb 8, 2018 | drug charges

Investigations of alleged drug operations in Louisiana and elsewhere around the country often last for an extended period of time. There are frequently multiple organizations that work together over the course of the investigation, requiring coordination of efforts. Several agencies recently concluded an operation that lasted almost two years, resulting in drug charges against 26 people.

The Louisiana State Police and the East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office reported that the cases began in Feb. 2016. Evidently, there were suspicions of illegal substances located in the parish. The Zachary Police Department later got involved and worked to identify individuals in East Baton Rouge and East Feliciana. Additional assistance in the operation was provided by SWAT, the Criminal Patrol Unit and Fusion Center of the State Police Department. Other sheriff’s departments assisting with the case included West Baton Rouge, Iberville and West Feliciana.

Those arrested face various charges, including possession with intent to distribute marijuana, methamphetamine, oxycodone, cocaine or other substances. Some have also been charged with illegal possession of a firearm or illegal possession of stolen things. In addition, there are multiple outstanding warrants for several individuals. Other illegal substances recovered in the investigation were MDMA, LSD, Xanax, Valium and Adderall.

Facing drug charges can be very unsettling, as consequences of a conviction can be serious. It is certainly not a situation anyone should confront alone. A Louisiana criminal defense lawyer can be a valuable ally throughout the entire legal process. An experienced attorney will work with clients to present a strong defense that will keep any negative impact on their lives to a minimum.
