3 facing drug charges after search of home

| Jan 31, 2018 | drug charges

Police in Louisiana routinely conduct searches as part of their investigations. Warrants are typically issued after law enforcement officials have petitioned the court for the appropriate authority to search someone’s property. Three residents of Violet have been arrested on drug charges following a recent search of their home.

The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office reported that a search took place at a Violet home, yet did not reveal why the search was conducted. In the home, officers allegedly discovered a plastic bag of cocaine, crack cocaine and marijuana in a hand-rolled cigar. Also located were plastic bags, pipes and other paraphernalia associated with the use of crack cocaine.

A 66-year-old man, a 48-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman were arrested after the search, according to police. All three have been charged with possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. While the woman was released on bond, the older man remains in the parish jail in lieu of bond. The younger man had been transferred to a jail in another parish due to apparent outstanding warrants.

Facing drug charges in the state of Louisiana can be an overwhelming experience. Since a conviction could result in potential time in jail or hefty fines, the charges should be taken very seriously. A criminal defense attorney could be a valuable asset to someone in a similar situation. A trusted lawyer will work with clients to thoroughly understand their situations and help present a rigorous defense against the charges. A strong legal defense team will also ensure that any searches or evidence collection was conducted in an appropriate manner.
