Man suspected of boating under the influence in Louisiana

| Aug 31, 2017 | boating under the influence

For many people visiting Louisiana, taking a boat ride on a river is a relaxing, fun way to pass an afternoon. Unfortunately, such an activity turned into tragedy after a boating accident on a river reportedly resulted in the death of a young boy. Police claim that boating under the influence may have been a factor in the accident and have since made an arrest.

The incident that led to the 8-year-old boy’s death happened at approximately 5 p.m. Reports indicate that three boys, including the deceased victim, were on a tube being pulled by a 19-foot bass boat. When the boat turned, reports claim that the tube struck the riverbank, throwing the boys off the tube.

In addition to the fatality, one of the boys suffered injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening while the other suffered minor injuries. The boy’s cause of death is unclear. The 35-year-old man operating the boat has since been arrested and faces multiple charges, including vehicular homicide, reckless operation of a watercraft, violating a no-wake zone and DWI with child endangerment.

The loss of a young life is always tragic and deserves an investigation. However, there must be sufficient evidence to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt if criminal actions — such as boating under the influence — are charged. The man who has been arrested likely has many questions about his case and the criminal justice process — questions for which he can get answers by turning to an experienced attorney in Louisiana for answers.
