Traffic stop results in firearm and drug charges

by | May 30, 2017 | drug charges

A Louisiana man was pulled over by deputies on May 17 for failing to come to a complete stop at an intersection and turning without using a signal. Law enforcement officials ended up searching the man’s vehicle and claim to have found drugs inside. This led to a home search and, ultimately, the man’s arrest on firearm and drug charges.

According to a local news report, the 34-year-old male was operating his vehicle in Mansfield when he was stopped by police at a local intersection. While searching his vehicle, deputies allegedly found three small bags of marijuana. The amount in the baggies led them to question his intent with the drugs, so they requested permission to search his home; allegedly, he agreed. At his home, deputies supposedly found nearly 3 pounds of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, firearms and prescription medication for which he did not have a prescription.

As a result of these findings, this man was arrested and transported to the DeSoto Parish Detention Center. The charges against him include marijuana possession with intent to distribute, illegal possession of Diazepam, drug paraphernalia possession and felon in possession of firearm — among several others. Court dates to address this matter have not been reported to the public.

The firearm and drug charges filed in this case carry significant penalties in Louisiana. As a conviction could mean imprisonment and hefty fines, the accused stands to lose quite a bit. However, this is not a fight he has to go through alone. With the assistance of an experienced criminal defense attorney, this individual can do all that is necessary to seek the best outcome possible for his situation.
