Vehicular assault or homicide: Woman arrested after fatal wreck

by | Apr 3, 2017 | vehicular assault or homicide

The woman believed responsible for a fatal wreck in Louisiana was recently released from jail. According to reports, this individual is charged with a myriad of offenses, including vehicular assault and homicide. Vehicular assault or homicide are crimes that are not treated lightly in court. While the accused may have been released on bond, she still has a long legal battle in front of her.

Near the end of March the accused, who is said to be 26 years old, was allegedly driving while impaired on the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway when she supposedly hit the back end of a pickup truck. The force of impact pushed the pickup onto the railing of the bridge, killing one individual and injuring others. Shortly after police responded, the accused was arrested and booked into a correctional facility in Jefferson Parish.

On March 24, the accused was able to post bond which was set at $126,000. It has not been reported if court dates regarding this matter have been scheduled. It is also unclear if this individual has retained legal counsel.

Vehicular assault or homicide that results from impaired driving is considered a felony level offense in the state of Louisiana. The accused in this case will face a variety of serious and even life-changing penalties if she is convicted on the charges filed against her. A skilled criminal defense attorney may be able to help this individual by reviewing every aspect of her case and questioning evidence — including blood-alcohol test accuracy. In doing so, information that may benefit the accused’s case may come to light which will help her as she seeks the best possible outcome for this difficult situation.
